Plainedge
Location & History

Plainedge is located at the end of the Hempstead Plains.. The level land was created after the glaciers retreated. William Frost & Thomas Powell bought most of it from Marsapeque Indians. "Massapequa" between 1688-1699. Cattle, Hay & Poultry covered the Plains... Then came cabbage& pickles for saur kraut & pickles until blight hit. Next potato farming took place until a similar blight.
By 1960 6000 homes were in Plaineged after the World War II housing boon. Real Estate & Shopping centers replaced the potato farming easily.
What is Plainedge?
Plainedge is split into the zip codes that cover Bethpage, Massapequa, Seaford and Farmingdale. It has a school district since the early 1800s, and a library for nearly forty years. It does not have it's own fire department,or post office. It is a community located on the edge of the above towns encapsulating a portion of them.
Today it (Plainedge) is a thriving city on the hill (plains), and admired by towns around the world for it's brilliant students (just ask their parents), fine residents (I for one agree), contributions to society, exceptional natural resources & parks. It is a thriving mecca of business & commerce(Marshalls, Target, Phils) sometimes used as reference by city planning boards throughout the US.
